Sustainability and Life Cycle

Durable long-lasting sign panels, and sustainable materials for structures that are easy on the environment are the visible signage product. Underlying any successful communication/signage program is a solid method for planning and maintaining each installation.

Terrabilt has developed a web-based software tool, Signfolio® allowing users to plot each planned assembly and assign a function. The user can specify each assembly by type of structure and assign related attributes (color, size, viewing area (panel size(s), height, graphic material, number of panels, mounting, etc.). Plotting an assembly on a map base within the software geo-codes its location and allows planners/designers to attach artwork. Each entry is made part of an overall sign schedule with its status indicated; planned, artwork complete, ordered and installed. As the assembly is updated (e.g., a new trail is added to the existing map from the original artwork), the action is recorded, dated, the sign ordered, manufactured and shipped. The plan is updated with a preview illustration of the finished product.

Using sign standards developed by Terrabilt or standards by others using Terrabilt specifications and fulfillment, reduces planning time, yields a complete record for every assembly and builds in a system for life cycle management. We never met a park staffer that has a good thing to say about the process of updating a sign legend or fixing a damaged panel without these efficient tools. Terrabilt Signfolio® addresses the manual complexities and eliminates the convolution of making a change, addition or upgrade.

Terrabilt reduces the need to carry stockpiles of posts and panels at park facilities and the costs of storage, retrieval and delivery. UPS delivery directly to the park eliminates the need for maintenance personnel driving government vehicles to remote sites for simple change-outs and timely upgrades and repairs. Given that the upgraded sign builds on the existing artwork and size/mounting locations are stored in the specification, the record allows the wayfinding program to be kept up to date and consistent.

With a plan and a uniform source of supply, implementation for small or large projects can be done incrementally; new signs will match and fit into adjacent existing signage previously installed. Implementation of the plan can be completed as scheduling and budget allow.

Start to Finish

Using our web-based Signfolio® software, you can plan, plot, and geo-code sign locations, archive artwork, specify signs, create orders, and maintain your signage program for years to come—all with one wayfinding system.

Signfolio® software and design tools, provide managers a comprehensive, innovative way to plan, build, and manage signs, exhibits, and kiosks for outdoor recreational environments.

Specific steps accommodated by Signfolio® include:

1)   Conceptualize and organize plan by area

2)   Capture field notes for wireless upload

3)   Download and plot plan from field notes

4)   Specify structure using a simple sign building wizard

5)   Save/archive final artwork

6)  Track design reviews for each installation

7)  Order signs using “shopping cart” technology
